Beckers is a leading supplier of coatings to several armed forces and defence equipment manufacturers across Europe.

This market has very unique requirements for the coatings it uses. Apart from the obvious corrosion protection and colour and gloss retention requirements, defence coatings have to meet infra-red reflectance and chemical agent resistance specifications.

Whilst military equipment is primarily intended for home defence, it is often sent to other parts of the world on exercise. Before it is shipped it has to be repainted in a different colour scheme, for example Arctic White or Desert Sand. When it returns, it has to be repainted in its’ normal colours. Beckers have developed a range of waterborne, temporary coatings for this application. The coating is simply applied over an existing paint finish without the need for primer. It has a design life of three to six months and meets the infra-red reflectance and chemical agent resistance requirements of more traditional coatings. On return from overseas deployment, the coating can be easily removed dramatically reducing the process costs.
